Storeys Way has many riches including a quince overhanging the junction with Huntingdon Rd. Also giving the street its best even in September is this gem.

Thanks to a generous old friend, I have the loan of a London flat whilst I spend a week editing my new film. Each morning I pass the leaf blower guy tasked with the IMHO pointless jobs of aggregating the fallen leaves into loose piles on the common land between tower blocks.
By night these bagged leaves appear to position themselves – rest in fact – loosely around and against street furniture.
By the next morning they’re gone.

This remains one of the best public gardens I know, tucked behind the Tramway and beautifully designed, planted and maintained.

At the imposing Clark Memorial Church in my home town of Largs there’s an attractive garden just metres from the seafront. Note on this sandstone gate post – a teensy self-seeded hebe from its adjacent parents. Lets hope it escapes the notice of the gardener and stays put.

I’m told this space is earmarked for a carpark. In the meantime this boatful of pansies has failed to launch on its woodchip sea….
